ITB Friction & Pain

ITBFS also known as Iliotibial Friction Syndrome. The IT Band is a thick tendon that runs down the length of the outer thigh.

It is a condition that is commonly an overuse injury that can cause inflammation and pain in the outside of the knee.

Some symptoms of this condition:

  • Sharp or burning pain just above the outer part of the knee
  • Pain that gets worse with running or other repetitive activities
  • Pain during early bending of the knee
  • Swelling on the outside of the knee

How to heal ITBFS ?

ITBFS can take up to 6 weeks to fully heal however there are a number of ways to help relieve knee pain. Massage treatment inclusive of deep tissue massage is very important to encourage healing, strengthening and assisting to decrease muscle pain.
